Tonight at Number 39 we are most proud to present on stage Attila The Stockbroker, a folk punk musician of excellence and renowned master of the spoken word.
Attila The Stockbroker (John Baine) has been performing since the late 70's and over that time his output has been truly prodigious. He's performed over 3,500 concerts, published eight books of poems. written an autobiography (which itself has 38 poems in it) and released over forty CD's. He has recorded two sessions for John Peel's BBC Radio One Show, performed in 24 countries, done 17 Edinburgh Fringes, numerous Glastonbury's and typically gets through 80 to 100 gigs a year. To cap it all, having just turned 60 says he's more fired up than ever.
Attila describes himself as a "sharp tongued, high energy social surrealist poet and songwriter". With rants targeting the media, politicians, the tabloid press and social injustices he lets his fairly gentle satire do the talking which will have you both roaring with laughter and seething with anger. Attila The Stockbroker comes with a powerful, poignant punch, like Betjeman with teeth.
"Whether he's ranting a poem or bashing out a song, there is something magnificent about Attila in full flight." - Ian McMillan, BBC Radio 4
"Attila has a fierce hunger for knowledge, a deep-seated sense of the injustices wreaked against the common people, massive stores of energy and an unstoppable drive to put art out into the world." - Laura Taylor, WriteOutLoud.net
